I’m Calling It

The expression ‘dine out on’, as in ‘He had a violent run-in with “Willow” director Ron Howard years ago and he’s been dining out on the story ever since.’ is no longer clever.  Please stop using it.

Also, the word ‘ping’, should not be used when the English language already has several good words (mention, reference, name check) that are both better known and more evocative.

We here at the Joshing Gnome would like to thank you in advance.  Keep English beautiful!

  1. I use ping as it is used in web speak. Ping, to me, means to contact someone (like how you would ping a server). Will you allow such usage?
